A survey of every large size Gold Certificate replacement note in the census reveals this *31D on the $20 in this lot is the lowest recorded for any Series or denomination. It is 40,000 lower than the next Fr. 11187 replacement enumerated in the census, and an unlikely survivor. Any gold certificate or replacement specialist will immediately recognize the importance of this piece, and bidding should easily top the $3,500 this piece alone realized in its last auction appearance.
