W.S. Elliot Courtesy Autograph Low Serial Number 21 Fr. 37 $1 1917 Legal Tender PMG About Uncirculated 55.Serial number H21A is autographed vertically by Register of the Treasury W(illiam) S. Elliot immediately to the right of his printed signature. This note was once part of The F.C.C. Boyd Collection. It made its first and only recorded auction appearance at the April 1954 New Netherlands Coin Co. auction as lot 627 of The Willis O. Crosswhite Collection. Since then, it has remained in the shadows, until now. We have now auctioned a total of only three notes courtesy autographed by Mr. Elliot, with the other two also being Fr. 37 notes, H26A and H28A. In fact, the Gengerke Census only lists one other note courtesy autographed by Elliot and it is Fr. 37 serial H27A. Mr. Elliot is certainly a key autograph for the collector pursuing a courtesy autographed collection of Treasury officials.
