Serial Number 1 Woonsocket, RI - $1 Original Fr. 380a The
Woonsocket National Bank Ch. # 1058 PMG Choice Fine 15.This is a very rare serial number 1 Rhode Island note that traces its provenance back to the sale of the Frank Limpert collection in 1955. While this note is from quite a scarce bank in its own right, having issued First Charters and Brown Backs only, this piece is one of less than ten serial number 1 large notes of any type or denomination recorded from Rhode Island. Last on the market in our 2005 FUN auction, this evenly circulated and problem free Original Series ace fetched a strong $23,287.50 in the super-heated market of that era. While we do not expect that realization this evening, this well-margined piece is certainly rare and desirable enough to bring a solid five-figure price.
