Description

One of Only Thirteen Pieces Known for This Friedberg Number

Fr. 342 $100 1880 Silver Certificate PMG Very Fine 25.
A new addition to the Track & Price Census, making the new total thirteen. PMG has accurately graded the note 25 and also accurately commented, "Minor Repair," although they did not net grade the note. The margins are huge which always adds tremendously to the eye appeal of any note. On these 1880 $100 Silvers, Monroe's portrait is at the far left. He shifts about an inch to the right on the 1891 Series. The colors are excellent and the black back is boldly and cleanly printed. The minor repair appears to us to be some rebuilding of the broad top margin that does not reach the frame line of the note. The most recent appearance of any Fr. 342 was a nearly identical piece, a PMG 20 with a net grade for minor repairs, that sold for $47,000 in August of 2013. This note grades slightly higher and is certainly far more attractive. We would expect a realization in just about the same area.
