Description

Fr. 61a $5 1862 Legal Tender PCGS Banknote Choice Unc 63.
A striking example of one of the iconic type notes, this 1862 $5 Legal Tender Note, payable in New York, features a vignette of Crawford's Freedom which, when this note was issued, had not yet been installed atop the United States Capitol (that would not take place until 1863). A portrait of Hamilton appears at lower right and a large green 5 and medallions are at center. An elaborate green back explains the note's legal tender status. The note is well printed with vibrant colors on bright paper with good margins and centering.
