Newly Reported Chelsea Original Series Ace
Chelsea, VT - $1 Original Fr. 380a The Orange County National
Bank Ch. # 1004 PMG Very Fine 25 Net.A wonderful new discovery from this very rare Vermont bank that was only in business from 1865 until 1873, this is the first of three great notes from this Orange County community that we are pleased to offer this evening. Prior to this auction, just one note from here had ever crossed the public auction block - a Deuce that we auctioned in 1995 and which is being offered in the next lot tonight. Track & Price does record a very low Ace that purportedly appeared on an internet auction site several years ago, but which is not listed in the National Currency Foundation census. Therefore, this newly surfaced piece presents a great opportunity for today's Green Mountain State collectors. It is a bright and attractive note with great color and bold pen signatures. PMG has noted some repaired tears and a reattached corner, but those flaws do little to detract from the overall eye appeal of this rare Vermont note.
