Circus Poster Layout $5 Brown Back
Newton, MA - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 469 The First National Bank
of West Newton Ch. # 3598 PMG Extremely Fine 40.A great circus poster layout adorns this rare Brown Back. It is just the fourth such piece to be reported, with only one of that quartet having appeared at public sale. That lone occurrence was in our 2017 Central States auction when another example, in a PCGS Very Fine 20 holder, fetched over $15,000. This offering, while its margins are a touch close, is certainly superior in grade to the other example we sold. It features great color, sharp pen signatures, and only very light circulation. It would not be at all surprising to see our likely conservative estimate exceeded within the first few minutes of bidding this evening.
