Description

Clear Lake, IA - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 625 The First NB Ch. # (M)7869
A high grade large size note from this community that is remembered today as the location of the last concert given by performers Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. After a performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake in February of 1959, they left for the airport at nearby Mason City, where their plane crashed shortly after takeoff. Don McLean's song American Pie is based on the death of these singers, which McLean termed "the day the music died." PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45.
