Description

One of Three Known

East Aurora, NY - $20 1902 Date Back Fr. 645 The First National Bank Ch. # (E)9950 PMG Choice Fine 15 Net.
An excessively rare Erie County example, this piece comes from one of the most difficult locations in the Empire State from which to obtain a National Bank Note. This community's sole issuer was only in business from 1911 until 1916. Just three notes are reported extant from this charter: the $20 we are offering this evening, a $10 which last appeared on the auction block in 2010, and a $20 which was Lot 2190 in the fabled Albert Grinnell sale and which has not been seen in the intervening 80 years. This moderately circulated $20 has had some repair work, but retains a pleasing appearance with good color and clear pen signatures. This is a great Upstate New York National.
