Serial Number 1 Washingtonville, NY Red Seal

Serial Number 1 Washingtonville, NY - $5 1902 Red Seal Fr. 589 The First National Bank Ch. # (E)9065 PCGS Banknote Very Fine 25 with Postcard.
A great Serial Number 1 Red Seal from a very scarce Orange County bank, this piece is making its first public appearance since a 2010 auction. The sole issuer in this small community, the First National opened its doors in 1908, but elected to liquidate in 1931 during the Great Depression, with just $660 in large size outstanding at that time. It is one of just seven large size in the census and the only Number 1 note, large or small, that is reported. A pleasing pen-signed $5 from the first sheet issued by the bank, it displays nice color with just a handful of storage folds. Included with the lot is an early 20th century postcard view of the bank's impressive building. (Total: 2 items)
