Description

One of Two Known

Ackerman, MS - $10 1902 Date Back Fr. 618 The First National Bank Ch. # (S)9251 PMG Very Fine 25 EPQ.
This is a great Mississippi rarity that is one of just two examples reported from the only issuer in rural Choctaw County. The First National was a short-lived affair, opening its doors in 1908 and operating only until the receiver arrived in 1923. At that time, the bank had a mere $920 outstanding. To date, just two notes have been reported - a $10 Plain Back in a PMG Very Fine 20 holder, with mention of impairments, that we auctioned in 2022 for $3,120 and this $10 Date Back, which is crossing the auction block for the first time since a 1983 Herb Melnick sale. It is an attractive, well printed piece with excellent color and fully original paper surfaces. It presents another opportunity for the Mississippi collectors to obtain this very rare charter.
