Description
Serial Number 1 Deposit, NY $10 Brown Back
Serial Number 1 Deposit, NY - $10 1882 Brown Back Fr. 479 The
Deposit National Bank Ch. # 472 PCGS Banknote Very Fine 30.A great Serial Number 1 $10 Brown Back, this offering comes from a very scarce Broome County bank which issued First Charters and Brown Backs only before being forced to liquidate in 1903 under less than ideal circumstances. It is one of just six pieces reported from this charter and traces its provenance to the sale of The Frank Limpert Collection in September of 1955. It features wonderful color, dark pen signatures, and represents the scarcer early variety of $10 Brown Backs with the vertical charter number. A contemporary annotation in the right margin on the back of "Signed March 15, 1883" presumably refers to when the note was signed by the bank's officers. Seventy years ago, it sold for all of $25 at auction. This Number 1 note should do considerably better this evening.
