Savannah, GA - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 469 The Merchants National
Bank Ch. # 1640 PMG Very Fine 25.This is a great new addition to the census of this scarce large-only Savannah bank that is the first $5 Brown Back to be reported. It represents a better type and denomination for this southern state as only five dozen $5 Brown Backs for all Georgia banks are listed in the National Currency Foundation census. This pleasing, pen signed example was previously mounted which likely accounts for its survival today. However, it faces up quite nicely with balanced margins and excellent color.
