Description

Unique Sparta Small Size

Sparta, GA - $5 1929 Ty. 1 The Hancock National Bank Ch. # 12317 PMG Very Fine 20.
While merely scarce in large size, this Sparta bank has been downright rare in small, undoubtedly due to the fact that the receiver closed the doors during the Great Depression in 1932. This offering is the only small size note reported from this charter and, tonight, it is crossing the public auction block for the first time. With the other note-issuing bank in Sparta having been a large-only affair, this offering is the only option for a collector to obtain a Series 1929 example from this Hancock County location. It is an evenly circulated $5 exhibiting just plenty of honest wear.
