Third Reported Quitman Small Size
Quitman, GA - $5 1929 Ty. 1 The Peoples National Bank Ch. #
11290 PMG Very Fine 25.This is a wonderful new discovery from, by far, the rarer of Quitman's two note issuing banks. This charter was only in business from 1919 until 1931 when it was absorbed by the First National in town and it issued just a handful of small size $5s before its closure. Tonight's offering is just the third Series 1929 example to surface from here and it is a bright mid-grade piece with good color and even wear. When the first small size example was reported from this charter several years ago, it realized $8,400 in our 2018 Central States auction. We do not expect quite that realization tonight, but this note is still rare and desirable enough to fetch a solid four-figure price.
