Description

Rare St. Louis $100 1902 Red Seal

Saint Louis, MO - $100 1902 Red Seal Fr. 686 The Third National Bank Ch. # (M)170 PMG Very Fine 30.
This is a great St. Louis rarity that is also one of just 133 $100 Red Seals reported for all banks in the entire country, according to the National Currency Foundation census. It is also easily the finest of seven examples of this type and denomination reported for this St. Louis bank, making it the ideal note for a type set. It is pleasing, well margined piece with dark printed signatures, even wear, and a bold red overprint which has been attested to by PMG with their comment, "Great Color." Last on the market in our November 2020 auction, it realized $15,600. This attractive example should certainly approach, or exceed, that realization tonight.
