Description

Richmond, VA- Counting House of Bowcock & Brown $1 Sep. 25, 1861 Jones-Littlefield PR60-127 PMG Fine 12.
One imagines that this was a private brokerage and exchange company. The firm is mentioned in several newspaper classified ads, one offering for sale hogsheads of tobacco for a client. The note features a rendition of the state coat of arms at center and an allegorical woman standing at left. The note is fully issued with even circulation and no repairs or meaningful condition impairments. Jones adjudges this to be an R-7 level rarity note (2-4 surviving examples). This is only the second time we have offered a $1 from this issuer.
