Description
Hessler X130E $5,000 18__ Act of Feb. 25, 1862 Treasury Department Registrar's Office First Series Registered 5-20 Bond 6% Interest with Attached Counterfoil (Archival) Remainder PCGS Banknote Choice VF 35.An uncommon, striking vignette with Invention instructing two children within sight of our nation's capitol. A telegraph sits on a plinth by her side along with a bas-relief of Franklin flying a kite. At right are other inventions and scientific items. The serial number is 750 on the bond and counterfoil. "750" on the counterfoil is crossed out and a penned "1" on the stub is the beginning of a new series. This is an archived remainder for changes as dates are crossed out in the bond text in order to be altered for the next series. Included with this lot is the handwritten engraver's instructions for new plates. This is only the second time that this piece has been auctioned since the 1991 auction of the ABNCo archives. We know of only two examples: our current offering and the Hessler plated example. Printer's annotations are mentioned on the back label and there are three hole punch cancels. (Total: 2 items)
