Description

Sabine Pass, TX- Alexander & Co. $5 July 1, 1862 Medlar UNL PMG Very Fine 20.
The 1870 Federal census for Sabine Pass, TX, lists C.H. Alexander as a wholesale grocer and it is likely that his firm was the issuer of this note which is attractively printed in black with a pink undertint and a green FIVE protector. It is printed on the back of a pre-war stock certificate on the Galveston, Houston and Henderson Railroad. This denomination is not listed in either Medlar's Texas state catalog or the 1970 update.
