Description

Boston, MA- Tremont Bank $1-$1-$2-$3 Apr. 1, 1856 as G16-as G16-as G32-as G44 Uncut Proprietary Proof Sheet PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
Each note on this sheet features a street view which some sources believe is State Street in Boston's financial district where the Tremont Bank was located. It is entirely possible that the pillared building in the foreground is, in fact, the Tremont Bank. The male portrait, at present, is unidentified as are the allegorical women on the $2 and the $3. This is a Proprietary Proof sheet meaning that it was printed from the original plate by ABNCo during the 20th century for various corporate purposes and programs. The exact number printed is unknown at present. The printer's annotation mentioned on the back label is the large red ink "SPECIMEN Property of American Bank Note Co." on the back.
