Important State of Mississippi Steel Printing Plate $10-$20-$50-$100
Jackson, MS- State of Mississippi $10-$20-$50-$100.Steel Face Printing Plate with Protective Envelope 18__ Cr. 4-3-2-1 Not Graded;
Uncut Sheet June 1, 1863 Cr. 4b-3b-2b-1b Uncut Sheet Fine.
A very exciting lot, this is the first time that we have been able to offer a printing plate that was used in the printing of state notes. We have auctioned printing plates for banks, merchants, and municipalities, but never before for a state. This ABNCo steel printing plate has a worn protective envelope (included in the item count) and measures approximately 9 by 14 inches. The plate is not graded, but is in nice shape as the only rust is located outside of the design of the notes save for on the face of State Treasurer Colonel M.D. Haynes on the $50 and a tiny spot observed on the bottom frame line of the $100. The other rust consists of a spot in the upper left corner that measures approximately .75 by .75 inches and a few more small spots found in the upper right corner and below the $100. There is rust also on the back of the plate. This printing plate is of the utmost importance for a Mississippi collector. Included is an uncut sheet that was printed with this plate. The sheet has numerous archival tape repairs on the back and internal tears and holes. It also has edge tears and chipping. This uncut sheet, signed by State Treasurer Haynes, is given a rarity rating of R11, two to four known, on page 203 of A Guide Book of Southern States Currency by Hugh Shull. The uncut sheet is also an important Mississippi collectible. This lot is an opportunity that seldom occurs. (Total: 3 items)
