Description

Plymouth, MA- Plymouth Bank $2 18__ G68 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The Plymouth Bank opened in 1803 and continued a successful business until it became the Plymouth National Bank in 1865. The note features a fabulously detailed vignette titled The Landing of the Pilgrims 1620 that is flanked by a cute vignette of two cherubs playing in a large 2 on the right and an oval portrait of Franklin on the left. A tiny locomotive appears at bottom center. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock and has four POCs in the signature lines. This note was part of an old time Proof sheet that traces its provenance back to 1966, when it was auctioned as part of the Lucius S. Ruder Collection. Excessively rare, with an estimated surviving population of perhaps 2-3 examples in Proof form. Ex: Charles R. Pease, Jr. Collection.
