Description

Virginia March 4, 1773 £5 PMG Choice Fine 15.
A very distinctive Virginia note series, this type was printed in London from the copper plate, engraved by Henry Ashby on fine watermarked paper, with the imprint "Ashby sculp London" horizontally at left. It is a uniface note with intricate indenting scrollwork at the left and Virginia Arms at the top. It features the bold signatures of B. Dandridge and John Blair, and is countersigned on the blank back by Robert Carter Nicholas. This is a nicely balanced example with good color, making it a solid choice for a type collection. PMG mentions the note is repaired.
