Description

Great Britain National Equitable Labour Exchange Birmingham Branch 10 Hours July 22, 1833 Pick UNL
This note comes from a program devised by the socialist reformer, Robert Owen. It was a cooperative where workers would exchange their goods for notes which were valued according to the time needed to produce the items. Not all was harmonious, as disputes over the value of products and the time taken to make them led to failure. All branches closed in 1834. This remainder grades Uncirculated with a couple of tears in the vicinity of the lower left corner. A Summer 1979 World Coins News article concerning this item is included.
