PMG Graded Fr. 61b-One of Three Known in this Grade, With None Higher
Fr. 61b $5 1862 Legal Tender PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.The first of a simply extraordinary consecutive pair, as this and the note which accompanies it are two of the three Fr. 62s which have been graded as Gem by either of the grading services. We have never sold a Gem Fr. 62 in any CAA or Heritage sale, and Track & Price lists only one auction appearance of any Fr. 62 in Gem, with that piece offered raw several years ago. Both of these notes were graded very early by PMG, and both appear to have the originality, centering and flash to grade even higher if re-submitted today. Any estimate here is simply a guess, as no better example likely exists than either of the incredible consecutive pair.
