Unique Long Island Rarity

Smithtown Branch, NY - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 627 The NB of Smithtown Branch Ch. # (E)9820
Unique for both the town and bank, and likely to remain so, as this Suffolk County institution issued Date Backs and Plain Backs only for thirteen years before closing forever in 1923. This unique piece traces its pedigree to a pair of the best Long Island collections ever formed, as it was sold in 1985 as part of the Sande holdings and again in 1998 as part of the Collection of a Gentleman. Now, after the passage of nearly fourteen years, another opportunity awaits as one fortunate collector will add a new town and bank when he brings home this ultimately rare Long Island treasure. PCGS Apparent Fine 15, with some minor restorations which are so minor they were not even mentioned in either of the note's past auction appearances.
