Colonial Notes
Continental Currency May 10, 1775 $5 Very Fine. A nice circulated example.
Continental Currency November 29, 1775 $6 Choice Very Fine. A lovely circulated example. Problem free and well margined.
Continental Currency February 17, 1776 $4 About New. A little handling and soil along the top edge is all that holds this well printed, well signed Continental from the Choice New grade. The centering of both sides is excellent.
October 11, 1777, 4d, Connecticut, CT-216, CU. This is an attractive slash cancelled specimen with decent margins and much of the original embossing showing through to the back. A rather attractive piece overall.
Maryland April 10, 1774 $4 Choice Very Fine. A nice example.
Massachusetts October 16, 1778 1s6d Extremely Fine. This Codfish issue utilizes plates made for the 1776 issue by Paul Revere. The plates were altered by Revere to the proper date, and the faces of these notes were printed in Revere's shop. This note has a beautifully centered face, with a very strong, sharp Codfish vignette. This eye-pleasing and historic issue has been increasing in popularity over the last few years, and every time a high-quality example reaches the market, collector pressure seems only to continue to increase.
New Jersey April 23, 1761 30s Fine. All three signatures and every word of the text are legible on this rare early note. This is number 1595 out of only five thousand examples originally printed. The note has four small holes where it had been pinned together during its time in circulation.
New Jersey April 16, 1764 30s Extremely Fine Counterfeit. The fourth of four different counterfeits listed in Newman. Interestingly, Newman lists only eight different New Jersey counterfeits, and four of the eight are 30s examples of this issue. This is the highest-grade example we've seen of any New Jersey counterfeit. It's an interesting and historic piece that should attract the desire of serious collectors. It should certainly equal, and perhaps surpass, the genuine example in value.
New Jersey March 25, 1776 3s Very Choice New. A decently margined, well printed, boldly signed example of this most common of the New Jersey issues. The note comes quite close to the full Gem grade.
New York September 2, 1775 $1 Fine. Heavily circulated, but very well margined and without meaningful problems. The note is signed by "J. Reade," who is referred to by Newman as John Reade. Reade Street first appeared on a 1797 New York City map, and it was named for Joseph Reade, a warden of Trinity Church. The two Reades are very likely related.
December, 1771, £3, North Carolina, NC-142, XF-AU. Magna Charta emblem. This note has three broad margins with a somewhat tighter top margin. The signatures and serial number are strong and the printing is sharp and bold. There is a single centerfold and a couple of very minor corner folds which define the grade. The higher denomination notes of this issue are significantly scarcer than the fractional denominations and command a substantial premium as such.
Pennsylvania October 1, 1773 10s Choice Very Fine. A nice, problem free, lightly circulated example of this farm-scene issue.
Pennsylvania October 1, 1773 50s Choice New. Well margined on both sides, with strong signatures and good eye appeal.
Pennsylvania December 8, 1775 30s About New. A very nice example, with strong printing on both sides and lots of anticounterfeiting mica flecks visible on the back. The sharp printing of the nature print on the back is rather unusual; this feature is often found muddy, but it is very clear on this particular note.
Rhode Island July 2, 1780 $1 Superb Gem New. A flawless example, cut from the same sheet as many of the notes to be offered below.
Rhode Island July 2, 1780 $7 Superb Gem New. A simply impeccable piece, cut from the same sheet as the $3 and $5 that appear above.
Rhode Island May 1786 6s New. The margins are rather tight, but this is otherwise a very nice example of this common issue.
Virginia May 7, 1781 $500 Very Fine-Extremely Fine. There are two old restoration-tape repairs, one at either end of the vertical center fold, but that is this extremely nice note's only flaw. It's boldly printed, well margined and strongly signed. The use of high denominations on these Virginia bills was the result of serious inflation. All Virginia issues had their legal-tender status ended by the Act of November 1781, and they were called in for redemption at one dollar in coin for one thousand dollars in bills. All were, by law, to become worthless by October 1, 1782.
Fractional Currency
Fr. 1229 5¢ First Issue Choice New. This is a fully perforated, eye-pleasing example of this scarce, no-monogram type. The design is centered a bit high on both sides, but in all other respects, this pretty little piece is a full Gem.
First Issue 5c, Fr-1229, Choice AU. Scarce perforated issue without monogram on back. This note has broad margins and fresh paper surfaces and is a single light centerfold from perfection. Higher grade no monogram notes do not appear nearly as often as their monogram counterparts.
Fr. 1230 5c First Issue Gem New. Well margined, bright, original and with near-perfect centering of both sides.
Fr. 1242 10c First Issue Very Choice New. This pretty little note comes quite close to the full Gem grade.
First Issue 10c, Fr-1242, Fine.
First Issue 25c, Fr-1279, XF. This is a scarcer perforated note with the ABNCo monogram on the back. There are some light signs of circulation on this well margined note.
Fr. 1281 25c First Issue Gem New. The colors of this beautifully centered note are perfect, as is the print quality and surface originality. It's an unusually nice example of a rather common type.
Fr. 1312 50c First Issue Very Choice New. A near-Gem example of this popular type. The back centering is perfect, and the face centering is only a touch off.
Fr. 1312 50c First Issue Very Choice New. This well centered, bright example comes quite close to the full Gem grade.
Fr. 1232 5c Second Issue Very Choice New. A near-Gem example.
Fr. 1244 10¢ Second Issue Very Choice New. A bright, pretty, near-Gem example.
Fr. 1245 10¢ Second Issue Very Choice New. A near-Gem example, with terrific color.
Fr. 1226 3c Third Issue Very Choice New. This perennially popular Three Cent note comes very close to making the full Gem grade.
Third Issue 5c, Fr-1238, Gem CU. This is a particularly nice Clark note with green back. The margins are broad and even the embossing deep and the paper surfaces immaculate. There isn't much to dislike about this one.
Fr. 1238 5c Third Issue Very Choice New. The back design is off-center to the right on this otherwise Gem Green Back Clark.
Fr. 1251 10c Third Issue Very Choice New. This Red Back "dime" has super original embossing, perfect colors and excellent eye appeal. The back centering is virtually perfect, and the face has three large margins but is slightly closer at the top. If the top margin were as generous as the other three, this note would be simply Superb. The partial back-plate number 57 appears at the lower left.
Third Issue 10c, Fr-1251, CU. A well embossed and well margined red back that has seen a little too much handling to warrant a higher grade.
Third Issue 10c, Fr-1255, Choice CU. This is a very well margined and well embossed example of this green back Washington issue. The printing is sharp and the bronzing bright. If the left margin was wider this would be a gem for certain.
Third Issue 25c, Fr-1291, Choice AU. The red back varieties of this issue are much scarcer than the more common green back varieties. This is a well margined note with excellent embossing as well but that just has too much evidence of handling to qualify the CU grade. This note is very choice for the grade assigned.
Third Issue Spinner 50c, Fr-1324, Choice-Gem CU. This is a bright and vibrant note with excellent paper surfaces and broad margins. These red back Spinner notes are always in great demand and this one should prove to be no exception. If the upper margin did not stray too close at the left this would be a full gem.
Fr. 1324 50c Third Issue Spinner Very Choice New. A pretty Red Back Spinner with good margins and nice color. The back is beautifully centered, and the note would rate the full Gem grade if the top face margin were as broad as the bottom.
Third Issue Spinner 50c, Fr-1331, Fine-VF. Green back Spinner note with three broad margins and a tight right margin. The bronze seals on the front of the note have faded to a dark green color. This makes a nice type note.
Fr. 1334 50c Third Issue Spinner Very Choice New. A pretty Spinner, with good original embossing, excellent centering and bright colors. The back has a few very minor press-bed smears.
Fr. 1339 50c Third Issue Spinner Type II Very Choice New. This is a near-Gem example, with excellent centering, bright color and sharp print quality.
Third Issue Spinner 50c, Fr-1339, VF. Type II reverse Spinner note with three broad margins and a tight top margin. This note has several folds that define the grade and is otherwise devoid of problems in every sense.
Third Issue Spinner 50c, Fr-1340, XF. This is a significantly scarce fractional that is on the top of most collector's want lists. This is the Type II reverse with both 1 and a on the face. This note has a couple of vertical folds or so with much of the original embossing showing through to the back. From the face this note looks like a gem as it has four beautifully broad and even margins surrounding Spinner's countenance. Even for a circulated note this will attract a great deal of attention from the type as well as advanced fractional collectors.
Third Issue Justice 50c, Fr-1343, XF. This is a handsome red back Justice note with very nice margins for this issue and only a couple of light folds which account for the grade. There is a very minor corner tear in the upper right corner.
Fr. 1345 50c Third Issue Justice Choice About New. This beautiful Red Back Justice has deep, original embossing and incredible margins for the type. Only a light center fold prevents this note from being a four-figure Gem Justice.
Fr. 1366 50c Third Issue Justice Very Choice New. The face has huge margins all around, with a smaller margin at the left. The back is off-center to the top and left. This note is bright, with deep, original embossing, flashy bronze and excellent eye appeal. The overall quality is so high that we're tempted to call this note Gem in spite of its centering. Fr. 1366 is quite a scarce number in all grades.
Fr. 1370 50c Third Issue Justice Choice About New. This is a gorgeous example of a Fiber Paper Justice, with margins that, although irregular, are unusually large for the issue. The back centering is also excellent, and the print quality is unusually good for a Fiber Paper note.
Fr. 1257 10c Fourth Issue Very Choice New. A near-Gem example, with strong colors.
Fourth Issue 10c, Fr-1258, Choice CU. This is an attractive note that is very sharply printed without watermark and is blessed with good margins. The paper surfaces are clean and smooth with no evidence of handling. The pink lasso that you see above Liberty's head is a pink paper thread and not marker.
Fourth Issue 10c, Fr-1259, Choice-Gem CU. This note has a bluish right side on the face and is blessed with very nice margins and paper surfaces. With a little more margin at the right this note would be a gem for sure. This variety is the scarcest and most difficult to obtain of the four varieties of this type.
Fourth Issue 15c, Fr-1267, Gem CU. A beautiful note to behold of this popular one year type with bountiful margins.
Fr. 1267 15c Fourth Issue Very Choice New. A near-Gem example of this popular 15c type.
Fr. 1271 15c Fourth Issue Very Choice New. This nice 15c note would be fully a Gem if the left face margin were a bit broader.
Fourth Issue Lincoln 50c, Fr-1374, VF. An attractive and very well margined note as far as Lincoln's go. This issue is notorious for having at least one very tight margin whereas this note has four full margins. There is a light border stain on the back.
Fourth Issue Dexter 50c, Fr-1379, Choice CU. This is a very well margined and bright Dexter note with bold printing and strong green inks. This note has all the look and feel of a Gem CU note.
Fr. 1264 10c Fifth Issue Gem New. A broadly margined, bright example of this much scarcer Green Seal Fifth Issue type.
Bronze Age (1970-1979)
Fifth Issue 25c, Fr-1309, Gem CU. This Walker note with short key is a broadly margined gem in every sense of the word.
Fifth Issue 25c, Fr-1309, Gem CU. This Walker note with short key has excellent margins and great color.
Fifth Issue 25c, Fr-1309, Gem CU. Walker with short key. This note is very well margined and exhibits smooth paper surfaces without any sign of handling.
Fifth Issue 25c, Fr-1309, Choice CU. This Walker note with short key would grade a full gem CU if the top margin was as broad as the other three. Otherwise, this is a flawless note.
Fractional Currency
Fifth Issue 50c, Fr-1380, Gem CU. This is an amazing Crawford note with outstanding margins and superlative paper surfaces. Don't leave your bid short on this one.
Fifth Issue 50c, Fr-1380, Gem CU. This is a sharply printed and boldly embossed example of this Crawford note. The broad margins don't hurt its claim for the gem grade either.
Fifth Issue 50c, Fr-1380, Choice CU. A lovely Crawford note with good margins and smooth paper surfaces.
Fifth Issue 50c, Fr-1380, AU. A light centerfold is all that keeps this Crawford note from being a near gem. The paper surfaces are excellent and very crisp as well.
Fifth Issue 50c, Fr-1380, VF. A well margined Crawford note.
Military Payment Certificates
Military Payment Certificate Series 471 10¢, Fine.

Confederate Notes
1861 $20 Large Sailing Vessel; Sailor at Capstan on left, T-18, VF, CC. A very nice circulated and cut cancelled example.
1861 $20 Alexander H. Stephens; Barrel; Cotton Bales, T-21, VF. A very pleasing example of this scarce early Confederate type. There is a minor repair in the lower left corner, although a quick glance at the note might miss it upon first inspection. This note looks great, and it is likely to be an affordable alternative that will fit very well in a Confederate type set.
1861 $10 Slave Picking Cotton in center; Canal Scene on right, T-29, Fine. A pleasing example of this scarcer type. The top margin is trimmed into the design slightly at the right end, but the other three borders are complete.
1862 $100 J.C. Calhoun on left; Slaves weeding Cotton in center; Confederacy Personified on right, T-41, Choice AU. A lovely example that was printed on thick paper with a CSA script watermark.
1862 $2 Personification of South Striking Down Union in center; J.P. Benjamin on left, T-42, VG. There is a small edge tear in the left end.
1862 $1 Steamship at Sea; Lucy Holcombe Pickens on right; Liberty on left, T-44, Choice AU. Tightly margined across the top, but nearly New but for a light fold and some minor handling. A scarce type in higher grades.
1864 $100 Lucy Pickens in center; Two Soldiers on left; George W. Randolph on right, T-65, XF+. A very popular note in a nice circulated grade.
1864 $50 Portrait of Jefferson Davis; Black with Reddish Overprint, T-66, VF-XF, with a couple of tiny edge nicks at the top.
1864 $10 Horses pulling Cannon; R.M.T. Hunter on right, T-68, VF.
CT29 $10 1861. A high grade example of this collectible counterfeit, Extremely Fine or better but a little aged. Contemporary counterfeits of Confederate currency are widely collected and are gaining popularity as the interest broadens in CSA currency in general.
Error Notes
1969-B $1 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-1905-A, Gem CU. This is really just a cutting error, but it is a neat one.
1963-A $10 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2017-E, Gem CU. An attached tab in the lower left corner was caused by a corner fold that occurred prior to the third printing.
Small Size
1928 $1 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1500, Gem CU. This is an always highly sought after note since it is a one year type and high grade examples such as this one are always scarce. This note has excellent margins and great embossing.
1928C $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1504, Choice CU. This is a lovely example of a scarcer issue. There are three superb margins with a smaller bottom margin. This note has some of the best embossing that your cataloger has ever seen for this issue.
1928D $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1505, Gem CU. This is a well embossed and well margined beauty.
1928D $2 Legal Tender Note Mule, Fr-1505*, Fine. A problem free example of this extremely scarce mule star note. This is an attractive circulated example with several folds but no problems to mention. The margins are broad all around giving this note significant eye appeal. With CU examples running at least a couple thousand dollars this is a great opportunity to own a mule star for only a fraction of the price but not of a fraction of the quality.
1928F $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1507, Choice-Gem CU. This is a well embossed and well margined legal tender deuce.
1928F $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1507*, VF-XF. This is an extremely scarce star note in any grade and this note should warrant consideration from many collectors who don't want to shell out many hundreds of dollars for a nice CU example. This note is very well margined and very attractive for the grade.
1928G $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1508, Choice CU. This note has all the look and feel of a superb gem. The margins are as broad as one could possibly hope for and the embossing is impeccably deep. The inks are a deep crimson hue. There is some trace evidence of handling which downgrades the note to Choice CU. Many would bid on this as a true gem based on appearance alone.
1928G $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1508*, VF. This is a spectacularly margined example of an early legal tender star that is sure to please the most difficult of collectors. This note has a few light folds which define the grade but is otherwise lovely and problem free.
1953 $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1509*, Gem CU. This is a very crisp and fresh note with superb embossing and excellent margins.
1953 $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1509*, Choice-Gem CU. This note is really beautiful to behold. The margins are broad and the embossing is deep. The catalog value is way off the mark for a note of this spectacular quality and should not be used as a guide. This is indeed a scarce note.
1953C $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1512*, Gem CU. And bordering upon Superb Gem. This note has boardwalk margins surrounding the note with bright red inks, fresh and crisp paper and lovely embossing. This note is at the upper end of the grading spectrum for certain and will find a new home in someone's high grade small size collection. Oakes catalog value is severely underpriced as star notes from this issue do not appear in this lofty condition very often.
1963 $2 Legal Tender Note with low Serial #1705, Fr-1513, XF or so. This otherwise common note is worthy of a significant premium due to the fact that there is a low Serial #1705. This note is superbly margined all around with some of the embossing still present, indicating that the folds were probably storage folds.
1963 $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1513*, Choice-Gem CU. By all rights this note would be graded Superb Gem CU by many but our conservative grading standards must prevail here and call it a near gem. The embossing is excellent and the margins are immaculate. Star notes of this quality do not come along very often and the opportunity to own this note should not be missed.
1928 $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1525, Gem CU. This is a bright first issue legal tender five with great embossing and bright fire engine red inks. The margins are broad and the paper is crisp. Small size legal tender prices are flying out of control and notes such as this one are the cause.
1928 $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1525, Gem CU. This is a stunning note to view with its fresh and bright paper and broad margins. The inks are bright red and the embossing deep.
1928 $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1525*, XF-AU. This is an extremely desirable early legal tender star note which does not make frequent appearances either at auction or in dealer inventories. The margins on this note are broad and even and there are only a couple of barely detectable folds which define the grade. This is a great opportunity to acquire a scarce note without paying a couple thousand dollars for a choice CU example. This is an excellent value for the grade.
1928A $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1526, AU. This is the second key note in the $5 legal tender series behind the 1928D. This is a very scarce issue and should be bid on accordingly. This is a well margined note that doesn't have any actual folds but rather has too much handling to be designated CU.
1928B $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1527, Gem CU. Broad margins. Good embossing. Deep rich inks. Fresh and bright paper. These are all qualities shared by Gem CU notes which this note also contains.
1928B $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1527, Gem CU. This is a wonderfully margined and well embossed example of an early five legal tender. Notes such as this one continue to retain their value and demand.
1928B $5 Legal Tender Note, Mule, Fr-1527, XF-AU. This is the much scarcer mule variety that is worthy of a hefty premium over the regular issue. This note is very well margined and retains much of the original embossing with only a couple of folds which define the grade.
1928C $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1528, Gem CU. This is a beautiful legal tender note with bountiful margins surrounding the note and crackerjack embossing. There isn't anything to dislike about this one. It's nearly perfect.
1928C $5 Legal Tender Note, Mule, Fr-1528, AU. This is the much scarcer mule variety. The embossing is excellent and the margins are broad and even. There is a single centerfold which accounts for the grade.
1928C $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1528*, Fine Choice. This is a very difficult note to locate in most any condition and should command a significant premium over the listed book values.
1928D $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1529, Choice-Gem CU. This is the key issue of the Legal Tender Fives. The embossing on this note is spectacular and the paper is crisp and fresh. This is a very well margined note, especially for this issue. There is a light center bend which is the only detractor which precludes the full gem classification. This is a really lovely note that should prompt vigorous bidding from the small size collecting community.
1928E $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1530, Gem CU. This is a superbly margined and very well embossed gem note that should inspire some spirited bidding before the hammer falls.
1928E $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1530, Choice CU. This is a particularly well margined note with excellent embossing as well.
1928E $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1530, AU. This is a well margined note which has retained good color in the seal and serial numbers. There is too much handling to qualify this as CU but it is awfully close.
1928F $5 Legal Tender Note, Wide I, Fr-1531, VF-XF. This is a very well margined and bright legal tender five which has retained some of the original embossing. There is a modicum of folds with absolutely no problems to mention. Truthfully, many would lay claim to this note grading much closer to XF than to VF.
1953 $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1532, Gem CU. This is a fresh and bright note with very broad margins and fantastic embossing.
1953A $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1533, Gem CU. This is a very well margined and well embossed example of this later date five dollar legal tender note.
1953B $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1534*, Gem CU. This later date star legal tender note is very well embossed with sizeable and even margins all around. They didn't print them much nicer than this one.
1953C $5 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1535, Choice CU. This is a well margined and well embossed beauty.
1966 $100 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1550, Gem CU. This is an absolutely gorgeous note to behold. Whoever acquires this note will be very pleased. This is a one year type note for this $100 legal tender and is always desirable as such. The margins are as broad as one could ask for and the inks are fire engine red. The paper is crisp and fresh. Don't hold back on your bid for this one.
1966 $100 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1550, Gem CU. This is a very well margined and well embossed example of this one year legal tender type.
Fr. 1550 $100 1966 Legal Tender. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
A nicely centered example of this scarcer modern day issue.
1966A $100 Legal Tender Note, Fr-1551, Choice AU. This is a lovely example of this rather scarce issue. The margins are superb and the embossing well punched through. This note would likely grade Choice CU or better were it not for a small tear at the bottom of the note that has been deftly repaired, greatly increasing both the eye appeal and value of the note.
1928 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1600, Gem CU. This is a fresh and bright well margined funnyback note with excellent color.
1928 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1600, Choice-Gem CU. This funnyback has three superb margins with one average margin at the bottom. The paper is fresh and the colors a deep rich blue hue. With a little more margin at the bottom this note would be a full gem.
1928 $1 Silver Certificate, Rare I-A block, Fr-1600, Choice CU. This lovely funnyback note is on the rare I-A block and is worth many multiples of the regular block issues. Your cataloger cannot remember the last time that I have seen a note from this block and certainly not in such a lofty grade. The embossing is deep and the margins are broad. With more margin at the top this would be the quintessential note. Expect the Oakes value of $700 to be just the beginning of some spirited bidding before the hammer falls.
1928 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1600, VF-XF. This note faces up nicely as XF or even better. The margins are broad and the embossing deep. There are a few light folds which account for the grade.
1928 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1600*, Fine-VF. This is a very well margined note that is particularly bright for a well circulated note. There are several folds which account for the grade although this note faces up at least a half grade higher. This is a highly desirable early small size silver star that is scarce and in great demand in any grade.
1928A $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1601, Gem CU. This is a great funnyback note with excellent margins and crisp paper.
1928A $1 Silver Certificate with Experimental YB block, Fr-1601, Choice CU. This is a very attractive experimental funnyback note with three very broad margins and a smaller bottom margin. This note is very bright and the paper is crisp. These notes were created to determine the effectiveness of different linens in the paper.
1928A $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1601, Choice CU. This is a lovely funnyback note with excellent margins and fantastic embossing. The paper is fresh and crisp and the colors are very bright. There are a couple of light bends in the paper which keep this note from achieving full gem status.
1928A $1 Silver Certificate with XB Experimental block, Fr-1601, VF+. This is a broadly margined note with the experimental block XB. These notes were used to determine the effects of changing the relative amounts of linen and cotton paper fibers. This block is the most valuable of the three in this issue.
1928A $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1601*, Fine. This is a very scarce funnyback star note in any grade. There are broad margins surrounding the note. This note should see some inspired bidding from collectors wishing to complete their star note sets with a reasonably priced example.
1928D $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1604, Fine. This is one of the keys to the entire $1 silver certificate series, only trailing the 1928C and 1928E in scarcity and value. This note has exceptional margins and is completely devoid of problems. This is an attractive note with lots of eye appeal and represents a good opportunity to acquire a scarce note without having to drop hundreds of dollars for a nice CU note.
1928D $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1604, VG. This is one of the key notes to the entire $1 silver certificate series and is bested only by the scarcer 1928C and 1928E funnybacks. This is a broadly margined note with no problems to mention except for good honest wear.
1935 $1 Silver Certificate with Experimental AB block, Fr-1607, Choice-Gem CU. This note has four perfectly even and broad margins. Much like the 1928 series experimentals these were performed on distinctive paper with a special finish beginning in March, 1937. These experimental notes are always very scarce and difficult to obtain in such lofty condition.
1935 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1607*, VF-XF. With the note grading much closer to the higher grade. This is a very broadly margined example of this much scarcer note. This is a more affordable example without having to spend several hundred dollars for a CU example. The Oakes catalog value is severely underpriced if one looks at auction results.
1935A $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1608, Gem CU. N-A block. This is a fantastic note: the margins are absolutely huge and the embossing is deep. The paper is also very crisp and fresh. Most would call this note Superb Gem CU but we must defer to a higher standard.
1935A $1 Silver Certificate, Mule, Fr-1608, Choice-Gem CU. This is a well margined and well embossed example of this much scarcer mule variety. This note would grade a full gem but for a handling mark in the top portion of the note.
1935A $1 Silver Certificate, Mule, Fr-1608, Choice CU. This is a very well margined and well embossed mule that is significantly scarcer than the regular 1935A issue notes.
1935A $1 Silver Certificate, Mule, Fr-1608, CU. This note has three superb margins with a somewhat tighter bottom margin. The embossing on this note is excellent as well. This lightly handled mule is much scarcer than the regular issue notes and should be bid on accordingly.
1935A $1 Silver Certificate, Mule, Fr-1608, XF-AU. There is a single centerfold with some other evidence of light handling which accounts for the grade. Many would classify this note as AU. The margins are huge and the embossing is still mostly present. This is a premium quality note for certain that should not be overlooked in this affordable grade.
1935A $1 Silver Certificate, Mule, Fr-1608, XF. This mule variety is much scarcer than the regular issue notes and should command a premium. This note is well margined and is fresh and bright with bold blue inks. There are three vertical folds which account for the grade. This note faces up almost a grade higher.
1935D $1 Silver Certificate, Narrow, Fr-1613n, Choice AU. This Narrow Star note is broadly margined and well embossed. This note is the *C block which is substantially scarcer than the *B block and carries a premium as such.
1935D $1 Silver Certificate with courtesy autograph, Fr-1613w, XF. This is a wonderful piece of history to behold. There is a courtesy autograph of Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snyder which gives it much added historical significance. These courtesy autograph notes have become wildly popular and command a premium that is multiples the usual value of a note. The margins are huge and the embossing is still mostly there. There are three light vertical folds which account for th e grade.
1935E $1 Silver Certificate with fancy serial number, Fr-1614, Choice CU. This note has three broad margins with a smaller bottom margin. The embossing is fantastic and the inks are bright. This otherwise common silver certificate has been blessed with a fancy serial number A17100000H. This is a really flashy note with lots of eye appeal.
1935E $1 Silver Certificate with courtesy autograph, Fr-1614, CU. This note is attractive with nice margins and the courtesy autograph of George Humphrey, Secretary of the Treasury.
1935E $1 Silver Certificate with courtesy autograph, Fr-1614, VG-Fine. This otherwise common note would not be worth much more than face value except that there is a courtesy autograph of Treasurer of the United States, Ivy Baker Priest, which gives it much added value and historical interest.
1935E $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1614*, CU. This is an incredibly crisp and fresh note with very nice margins and all of the original embossing still present. Even the more common $1 silver certificate stars have been increasing in popularity and value along with the bulk of small size type notes. This note should elicit the same magnitude of demand. A light off-center bend is all that is keeping this note from being a near gem.
1935F $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1615*, Choice CU. This is a very attractive and very crisp star note. The margins are all very nice and the embossing well punched through. This is the *G block which is somewhat scarcer than the *F block of this issue.
1935F $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1615*, Choice CU. This is a very attractive star note with wonderful embossing and excellent margins. If the bottom margin were wider this would be an unquestioned gem.
1935G $1 No Motto Silver Certificate, Fr-1616*, Choice-Gem CU. This is truly a lovely silver certificate star. Although not as scarce as the With Motto variety, this is a sleeper series in its own right. The embossing on this note is fantastic and the inks bright blue. There are three very broad margins with an adequate top margin. With a wider top margin this note would be an unequivocal gem.
1935G $1 With Motto Silver Certificate, Fr-1617, Gem CU. This is a spectacular example of this much scarcer With Motto specimen. The embossing is deep and rich, the margins are broad, and the paper is crisp on this strictly original note. That pretty much qualifies this note as a true gem.
1935G $1 With Motto Silver Certificate, Fr-1617*, Choice-Gem CU. This is a very tough silver certificate star to obtain as this note has bountiful margins and punch through embossing. This one is a real keeper.
1957B $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-1621, Gem CU. A great looking note with a double digit serial number. Notes like this are in short supply, and this example should reach or exceed. . .
1957B $1 Silver Certificate with courtesy autograph, Fr-1621, Choice CU. This is a stupendously well margined example with exemplary embossing as well. This note has the courtesy autograph of Kathryn O'Hay Granahan giving it much added value and historical significance.
5 consecutive 1934A $5 Silver Certificates, Fr-1651, Gem CU. This is a handsome group of five consecutive silver certificates each a bonafide gem. All notes have excellent embossing and margins with very crisp and fresh paper.
1934A $5 Silver Certificate, Fr-1651, Gem CU. This is an absolutely gorgeous note with bountiful margins and crackerjack embossing. This note has been off the market for over 30 years and is strictly original in every sense of the word.
1934B $5 Silver Certificate, Fr-1652, Gem CU. This splendidly margined note has deep blue color and fresh paper. This is a very underrated issue in your cataloger's opinion.
1934B $5 Silver Certificate, Mule, Fr-1652, XF. This is the prohibitively scarce Mule which is very difficult to locate in any grade. There are three light vertical folds and a horizontal fold which define the grade. This note has beautiful margins and has the appearance of at least a grade higher when viewed face up. What makes this note even more desirable is that it is the KA block, which is much scarcer than the LA block.
1934D $5 Silver Certificate, Wide I, Fr-1654, Gem CU. This is a very pretty note. There are excellent even margins all around with good embossing as well. The frame is evenly centered within the confines of the entire note giving it excellent eye appeal.
1934 $10 Silver Certificate Mule, Fr-1701, Gem CU. This note has broad and beautiful margins with good embossing to match. The paper is crisp and fresh and the seal and serial numbers a bright blue hue. The mule of this issue is somewhat scarcer than the regular issue. First year of issue $10 silver certificates are always in great demand from all segments of the small size community. This penultimate example should exceed even your wildest expectations.
Fr. 1860-K $10 1929 Federal Reserve Bank Note. Very Fine.
The Dallas $10 FRNB is one of the keys to this ephemeral small size series. Only 504,000 examples were originally printed, and survivors are very scarce in any grade. This problem-free VF is likely to fill a hole in a collector's set, and should prove to be very popular among bidders.
1929 $20 Federal Reserve Bank Note, Fr-1870-E, Fine-VF. This is a somewhat more valuable district where quality notes are difficult to come by. This note has three broad margins with a somewhat smaller top margin. There are several folds which define the grade with no tears or pinholes.
1929 $100 Federal Reserve Bank Note, Fr-1890-G, Fine. Problem-free and attractive for the grade.
An Original Pack of 100 1999 $1 Federal Reserve Notes, Fr-1924-E*, all Gem CU. A nice star pack that should inspire numerous bids.
An Original Pack of 100 1999 $1 Federal Reserve Notes, Fr-1925-G, all Gem CU. A lovely pack that is completely original and fresh.
An Original Pack of 100 1999 $1 Federal Reserve Notes, Fr-1925-G, all Gem CU. Another great-looking original BEP pack.
1976 $2 Federal Reserve Notes Complete District Set, Fr-1935, Gem CU. This is a well matched complete district set with all the notes being very well margined and extremely well embossed. The inks are all a dark rich green color with the printing sharp and the paper crisp and fresh as if it were printed yesterday. These district sets have become very much in demand and this one should be no different.
A Complete District Set of 1976 $2 Federal Reserve Notes, Fr-1935-A through L, all grading Choice to Gem CU. A lovely group of a dozen notes that will likely be very popular among bidders looking to form complete FRN sets.
A Complete District Star Set of 1976 $2 Federal Reserve Notes, Fr-1935-A* through L*, all grading Choice to Gem CU. A nice group of twelve star notes that will save someone plenty of time trying to assemble this collection individually. The I* and J* notes (far and away the keys to the series) are both absolute Gems.
1976 $2 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-1935-B, Gem CU. A lovely note with three bountiful margins and an enormous top margin from a cut sheet of four notes with extra selvage at the top (that's what the black ink area on the front is). This is about as fine of a note as one can hope to obtain in terms of quality.
1976 $2 Federal Reserve Note with stamp, Fr-1935-D, Gem CU. This Cleveland district note is well margined and embossed and has a 13 cent stamp along with a seal stamp from the Stamp Shoppe of Cleveland, Ohio over Jefferson's portrait. A very interesting piece of Americana to be sure.
Courtesy Autographed 1976 $2 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-1935-K*, CGA Gem Uncirculated 66. Signed by Francine I. Neff.
1928 $5 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-1950-K, Gem CU. The embossing of this note is strong and the margins are virtually perfect. This numbered district five is at the top of many collector want lists and will likely continue to be long into the future as more new collectors flock to our field. Dealers usually pay more than the listed Oakes value for notes such as this and this example should be no exception to the rule. Bid accordingly and do not leave anything on the table if you hope to obtain this gem.
Fr. 1950-K $5 1928 Federal Reserve Note. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
Just a hair too close at the bottom for the gem grade.
1928-B $5 Federal Reserve Note with Dark Green Seal, Fr-1952-C, Choice-Gem CU. This is a very well margined and bright colorful note that is highly desirable both for its state of preservation and for its relative scarcity.
1934-D $5 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-1960-G, Gem CU. This is a very well embossed note with super bountiful margins surrounding the note that is bordering upon Superb Gem CU.
1928-B $10 Federal Reserve Note with Dark Green Seal, Fr-2002-G*, Gem CU. Many would be tempted to call this Superb Gem CU. The margins are absolutely fantastic on this rare star note. Star notes from this issue are scarce in general but a note of this supreme quality and condition is an outright rare find. They don't come any nicer than this and you can fully expect the Oakes value of $600 for CU to at least be doubled when the hammer finally falls.
1934-A $10 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2006-B*, Gem CU. Even though this is one of the more common star notes of this issue it is very much sought after as most New York notes are. The margins on this one are rather large and the embossing well punched through. This is a scarcer but more readily available star note that should pique some interest.
1934-A $10 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2006-E, Gem CU. This is a well margined and well embossed beauty.
1934-A $10 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2006-E, Choice-Gem CU. This is a very attractive note with broad margins and good embossing. With a little more margin at the top this would grade a full gem. If you like fives then you have four of a kind with this beauty.
1995 $10 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2032-F*, Gem CU.
1928 $20 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2050-E, Choice-Gem CU. This is a very well margined note with a smaller bottom margin precluding the full gem grade. These numbered district notes are high on most collector's want lists and this note should be no exception.
1928 $20 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2050-F, VF.
Fr. 2050-G $1928 Federal Reserve Note. Gem Crisp Uncirculated.
A well centered and simply beautiful example which is as nice as the day it was printed. A premium piece worthy of a premium bid.
1928-B $20 Federal Reserve Note with Light Green Seal, Fr-2052-J, Fine. This is a very attractive and well margined example of this issue.
Fr. 2054-F $20 1934 Federal Reserve Notes. Gem Crisp Uncirculated.
A run of 10 perfectly centered and pack fresh Atlanta district twenties. The Oakes catalogue value here of $85 per note may well be conservative.
1934 $20 Federal Reserve Note Dark Green Seal Mule, Fr-2054-K, Gem CU. This is a fresh and well margined beauty that will fit into anyone's collection.
1928-A $50 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2101-B, VG-Fine. An attractive for the grade example of a scarcer issue in a more affordable grade.
1928-A $50 Federal Reserve Note with Dark Green Seal, Fr-2101-G, Gem CU. This rather handsome note is from a very scarce series of early fifties, as the 1928-A is scarce across all denominations. This particular note is crisp and fresh with broad and even margins, fitting well into the gem classification. High grade examples such as this one tend to receive bids upwards of a thousand dollars at public auction and this note should be no different.
Fr. 2102-L* $50 1934 Federal Reserve Note. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
A vividly printed example of this very scarce star. With the demand for early star notes far outstripping the supply, expect the Oakes catalogue price of $750 to serve as only the starting point here.
1950-D $50 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2111-D*, Gem CU. This is a splendid star note from a series where high grade stars are very difficult to obtain. Usually the embossing is terrible or one of the margins is short. Not so on this note, which has plenty of margin and embossing. Many people will be bidding tooth and nail to get a hold of this one.
Fr. 2151-G $100 1928A Federal Reserve Note. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
An attractive and well printed example with excellent color and body.
Fr. 2152-F $100 1934 Light Green Seal Federal Reserve Note. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
Bright, well centered, and fully original, removed from the Gem designation due only to the lightest of handling. This Light Green Seal example is worth every dollar of the $600 catalogue valuation in the new edition of Oakes.
Fr. 2152-G* $100 1934 Federal Reserve Note. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
A very desirable early star which is about as nice as one could hope to obtain. The Oakes catalogue value of $900 seems about right here.
1934 $100 Federal Reserve Note with Dark Green Seal, Fr-2152-K, Choice-Gem CU. This is a broadly margined note with fresh paper that is higher than the observed high in the Oakes reference.
Fr. 2152-K $100 1934 Federal Reserve Note. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
The margin is just a touch close on the right on this most appealing Dallas district example.
1934-C $100 Federal Reserve Note, Mule, Fr-2155-G, Gem CU. The margins are near perfect and the paper crisp on this early hundred mule. These notes are rarely seen in this high grade.
Fr. 2162-B* $100 1950E Federal Reserve Note. Choice About Uncirculated.
An attractive example of this late date star rarity, issued by only three districts in this series. This example has retained much of its original embossing and displays almost no trace of any real circulation. If you are looking for a an example of this rarity that will fit nicely into any collection but sell for less than the $5000 a gem would bring, this is the note for you.
1934 $500 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2201-B, Choice CU. This is a very attractive high denomination note with excellent margins and acceptable embossing. The paper is fresh and bright on this uncirculated example which should see some enthusiastic bidding before the gauntlet is laid down.
1934 $500 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-2201-G, VG. This is a very attractive note for the grade. There is some soiling throughout the note but otherwise no real problems to mention.
1934-A $500 Federal Reserve Note, Mule, Fr-2202-J, CU. This is a very attractive example of an always popular high denomination bill. The margins on this note are superb and the ink a bright green. There are no actual folds to mention just some light handling that downgrades the note to CU.
1935-A $1 Hawaii Silver Certificate, Fr-2300, Gem CU. Well centered Hawaii notes such as this one are difficult to find and it is a real treat when they do come along. The embossing is excellent and the paper crisp and fresh. Most collectors and dealers alike are on the lookout for high quality pieces of emergency currency and this one is sure to please. If the Japanese had overrun Pearl Harbor than this note and others like it would have been rendered obsolete.
1934-A $10 North Africa Silver Certificate, Fr-2309, Gem CU. This note has broad and even margins with excellent embossing as well. High grade North Africa notes of any denomination are very desirable resulting in fast and furious bidding at auction. Don't let the opportunity to own this magnificent piece of history slip by. If Rommel had overrun Egypt this note and others like it would have been demonetized. Fortunately for us this didn't occur.
Fr. 2309 $10 1934A North Africa Silver Certificate. Gem Crisp Uncirculated.
Much brighter than average, and with much better centering than the norm as well.
1934-A $10 North Africa Silver Certificate, Fr-2309, Choice CU. This is a well margined note with a great deal of eye appeal which makes it highly desirable. This note is from the first print run of this issue.
1928 $10 Gold Certificate, Fr-2400, Gem CU. This is a very well margined note with nice embossing for this type. Small size gold certificates are notorious for having little to no embossing. High grade tens are always high on everyone's want list.
1928 $20 Gold Certificate, Fr-2402, Choice-Gem CU. This is a splendid high grade example of this small size gold twenty. The margins are broad and the embossing deep. With a slightly larger right margin this note would easily fit within the gem classification. These gold certificates are always poorly embossed so this note is a good example of strong embossing for this issue. High grade gold certificates always receive strong bids from collectors and dealers alike.
1928 $20 Gold Certificate, Fr-2402, Choice-Gem CU. This is a very well margined note with good embossing as well. Although there were millions printed, notes of this high quality are rarely seen and bidding is usually vigorous to acquire such a note. If the right margin were a little broader this note would be a well qualified gem. The Oakes catalog value of $600 is likely just the beginning of the bidding.
Fr. 2402 $20 1928 Gold Certificate. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
Exceptionally vivid colors and very close to the gem grade.
1928 $20 Gold Certificate, Fr-2402, VF+. A problem-free circulated gold note.
Fr. 2405 $100 1928 Gold Certificate. Extremely Fine-About Uncirculated.
We are fortunate to have this high grade 1928 $100 Gold Notes, a type which is usually available either in very high grade or very low grade, but seldom in the grades collectors want.
Fr. 2407 $500 1928 Gold Certificate. Very Fine-Extremely Fine.
An attractive example with nice bright colors which comes very close to the Extremely Fine grade. There are a few closed pinholes typically found on these high denomination pieces, but this high end circulated piece will fit nicely into any better grade set.

1854 $1 Merchants' Exchange Bank, Anacostia, DC, G2b, Choice AU. A small corner bend is the only visible flaw.

$20 "Bank of Industry" John Burke, New York, NY, VF+. A scrip or fantasy issue that we have not seen before.
1861 $5 Bank of America, New York, NY, C126b, VG+. A decent circulated example with bold red overprints on the ends.

25¢ Eastman College Bank, Poughkeepsie, NY, Choice CU.
1862 50¢ William H. Chandler, Whitesboro, NY, Fine+. This nice piece of merchant scrip was payable at the Bank of Whitestown. There are a couple of small edge tears at the left end.

1859 $4 Bank of Cape Fear, Wilmington, NC, G396, VF. Payable at the branch bank in Salem, this is an extremely pleasing example of this scarce $4 issue. Bank of Cape Fear notes all have enormous popularity, and this denomination is always a collector favorite. Notes from this bank are often seen in low grades and with problems, but this piece is noteworthy as an exceptionally nice example.
1855 $10 Bank of Yanceyville, NC, G8, Fine. There are a couple of old hinges on the back where this note was once mounted, but they could likely be carefully removed (if the new owner so desired) and they do not at all detract from the appearance of the note.

1862 50¢ Bank of the State of South Carolina, Charleston, SC, G110, XF. A lovely, lightly circulated example of this scarce fractional type.
1854 $20 Farmers' & Exchange Bank of Charleston, SC, G6a, VF-XF.
1861 $20 South Western Railroad Bank, Charleston, SC, G6c, VF, POC. Numerous punch cancels at the bottom are present, but this scarce issue is seldom found any finer.
1853 $50 Farmers' & Exchange Bank of Charleston, SC, G8a, Fine-VF.

1873 $20 South Carolina Rail Road Company, Charleston, SC, VF-XF, POC. This punch cancelled example is serial number 76 of only 100 notes issued. Survivors are understandably scarce in all grades.

1855 $2 Bank of East Tennessee, Knoxville, TN, G86a, Fine. Payable at the Jonesboro branch.
18-- $20 Lawrenceburg Bank of Tennessee, Lawrenceburg, TN, G12a, CU. A small corner tip fold does not prevent us from assigning a CU grade to this colorful, crisp note.
18-- $10 Lawrenceburg Bank of Tennessee, Lawrenceburg, TN, G10a, Choice AU. A broad diagonal fold prevents a higher grade.
1859 $100 Bank of West Tennessee, Memphis, TN, G14a, AU, POC. This issue and denomination are both very scarce in high grades.
1854 $10 Southern Bank of Tennessee, Memphis, TN, G10a, XF. A very scarce remainder note from this bank that is often missing from most Tennessee collections.

Large Size
1917 $1 Legal Tender Note, Fr-37, Choice-Gem CU. Boldly embossed and strictly original, this note doesn't quite have the centering for a Gem grade but it is otherwise Superb in every way.
1917 $1 Legal Tender Note, Fr-37, VF or so. This is a very handsome example with three broad and even margins and a shorter bottom margin. There is a little soiling present but nothing that it out of the ordinary for a moderately circulated note such as this.
Fr. 39 $1 1917 Legal Tender Very Choice New. A well embossed, strictly original example that approaches the Gem grade.
Fr. 39 $1 1917 Legal Tenders Very Choice New. A consecutive pair, with beautifully bright colors and better margins than those usually seen on this type.
1917 $1 Legal Tender Note, Fr-39, VF-XF.
1917 $1 Legal Tender Note, Fr-39, Good. This Legal Tender Ace is pretty well margined and exhibits a plethora of folds and would be problem free but for a tear in the lower right corner.
1923 $1 Legal Tender Note, Fr-40, VF-XF. A bright circulated example of this scarce and popular type.
1923 $1 Legal Tender Note, Fr-40, VF. This is an always popular Legal Tender Ace with the red seal, which in this case is somewhat faded due to circulation. This note is very well margined and exhibits some folds which define the grade.
Fr. 42 $2 1869 Legal Tender Very Fine. A good looking, well margined note with considerable color remaining.
Fr. 50 $2 1880 Legal Tender Cut Sheet of Four Gem New. These four well embossed, strictly original, gorgeous examples represent about 8% of all the known Fr. 50's in all grades combined, and the percentage gets a lot higher than that for top-end pieces. Each one is beautifully bright, crackling fresh, well margined and loaded with eye appeal. A gorgeous cut sheet of a rather scarce number.
1917 $1 Legal Tender Note, Fr-39, Fine-VF. This is a very well margined and attractive legal tender ace with George Washington's portrait at center.
1917 $2 Legal Tender Note, Fr-60, Fine. This note has decent margins for this issue with some light spotting and discoloration.
Fr. 64 $5 1869 Legal Tender Fine. The paper surfaces are soft, and the colors a bit muted. This is the variety with the USUSUS watermark which is commonly seen on Fourth Issue Fractionals and is much scarcer on Large Size Currency.
Fr. 67 $5 1875 Legal Tender Gem New. A broadly margined, bright example of this "B" Series note. The red overprint is unusually bold, the note is well margined, and the vignettes have a photographic sharpness that helps impart additional eye appeal to this vibrant looking, scarce number.
Fr. 128 $20 1875 Legal Tender CGA Gem Uncirculated 65. Far scarcer than the Fr. 129 with which this number is often confused. Only a few more than 50 Fr. 128's are known, and there are over 130 examples of Fr. 129. The disparity is even more pronounced in top grade, as a fairly long run of uncirculated Fr. 129's exists.
Fr. 217 $1 1886 Silver Certificate Fine. A solid example for the grade and a scarcer number, as the great majority of this type are Fr. 215 with the small red seal.
1896 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-224, Fine+. A few hard creases prevent a higher grade on this otherwise attractive Educational Ace.
Fr. 225 $1 1896 Silver Certificate Very Fine. This One Dollar Ed gives the appearance of a full Extra Fine when viewed from the face, but one quarter of the back is soiled, apparently from being carried in a wallet as a souvenir. The history and value of this note is considerably enhanced by its Spanish-American War reference written in the back margin, "Only One Dollar Bill in First U.S. Government War Pay. $186.65 at Camp Thomas, Ga, July 5, 1898.
1899 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-230, VF. Series date vertically right. This attractive Black Eagle silver certificate has been endowed with wonderful margins giving it a lot of aesthetic appeal. There are six vertical folds which fits this nicely inside the assigned grade. There are no problems to mention on this otherwise fresh and bright note.
1899 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-234, Fine. Series date vertically right. This Black Eagle Ace has a variety of folds which define the grade but is otherwise an attractive and well margined note. The top border displays some very minor roughness but this is wholly consistent with the Fine grade and is only mentioned for accuracy.
1899 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-235, CU. A bright and crisp Black Eagle note.
1899 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-236, Choice CU. A lovely Black Eagle note with the series date vertically to the right. This is a very bright note with good ink colors and fresh paper. This note has been blessed with three very sizeable margins and a somewhat tighter bottom margin. If the bottom were larger this note would be a true gem.
1923 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-237, Gem CU. This is a fresh and bright example of this later date silver certificate. This note truly qualifies as a gem due to the embossing and bountiful margins. Fr 237 is somewhat scarcer than the Fr 238 and should carry some premium over the more common variety.
1923 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-237, Gem CU. This is a great note with two good margins and two huge margins which give it lots of eye appeal. This note has bright blue inks and good embossing fitting it quite nicely inside the gem categorization.
1923 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-237, Choice CU.
1923 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-237, XF. Three light vertical folds exist on this very bright and colorful silver certificate. Bountiful margins surround the frame on this problem free example.
1923 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-237, XF.
1923 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-237, VF-XF. A few light folds are present on this bright and colorful note. This note retains much of its original crispness and is blessed with good margins as well. This note is very pleasing on the eyes.
1923 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-237, VF. A well margined and problem free later date silver certificate.
1923 $1 Silver Certificate, Fr-237, VG. A well circulated note that has probably been washed at some point but that is blessed with broad margins and is relatively problem free except for some roughness in the left border.
1899 $2 Silver Certificate, Fr-255, VF. This George Washington silver certificate has a modicum of light folds which account for the designated grade. The margins are rather large, especially for this issue and the paper still retains a good deal of its crispness. This issue was at one time very stagnant but has now become recognized for its relative scarcity.
1899 $5 Silver Certificate, Fr-271, VF-XF. A gorgeous, evenly circulated Indian Chief note from the first signature combination of this type. This note is strictly original and still possesses generous traces of embossing.
Fr. 281 $5 1899 Silver Certificate Choice About New. A very well margined, good looking example of this final signature combination of the 1899 Fives.
1899 $5 Silver Certificate, Fr-281, XF-AU. This always popular Chief note is a very popular piece of American history. This particular example has wonderful margins for this issue and bright blue inks on fresh paper. There are merely two light vertical folds making this a highly desirable note to own.
Fr. 375 $20 1891 Treasury Note Extremely Fine. This strictly original note has tremendous eye appeal. It's a scarce type that is seldom available in high circulated grade. With the exception of a short uncirculated run that surfaced in recent years, most of the known examples are heavily circulated. Obtaining a really nice example without paying the price for an uncirculated piece is a considerable challenge. This note is equal to it.
1918 $1 Federal Reserve Bank Note, Fr-713, VF. This New York District FRBN is blessed with superb margins and displays a light number of folds. This note has no real problems to mention. These large size FRBN's are always very popular with most paper money collectors and therefore carry a premium due to demand.
1918 $1 Federal Reserve Bank Star Note, Fr-714*, CGA Very Fine 20. A mere six examples of this star note are reported in Murray's census, and this example is new to the list. Attractive and problem-free for the grade.
1918 $1 Federal Reserve Bank Note, Fr-715, XF. A three-fold XF that looks better from the front.
1918 $1 Federal Reserve Bank Note, Fr-717, XF. This is a very well margined FRBN from Philadelphia that should please the most picky of collectors.
1918 $1 Federal Reserve Bank Note, Fr-729, VF-XF. Strictly original and problem-free, but with several folds that define the grade. Traces of original embossing remain.
1914 $5 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-851a, VF. This New York Five has pretty large margins and is problem free.
1914 $5 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-887a, Fine. This is an attractive and well margined note with several folds on this Dallas Bank.
1914 $10 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-915a, VG-Fine. This Philly Ten is well margined with many folds and some light stains and discoloration.
1914 $20 Federal Reserve Note, Fr-999, VF+. A pleasing note from the scarcer Minneapolis district bank.
1922 $10 Gold Certificate, Fr-1173, VG-Fine. This note has an overall attractive appearance for the grade save for some problems. The upper left corner is torn, there are a couple of pinholes and an edge tear in the upper border. Otherwise, this is a well margined note with a lot of eye appeal.
Fr. 1173a $10 1922 Gold Certificate Choice Extremely Fine. A beautifully clean, unmolested example, with broad margins and bright, flashy colors. 1173a, the variety with the smaller serial number, is quite a scarce note. Census records show it to be about seven times scarcer than Fr. 1173, but CAA's own records are far more skewed: we have sold over 300 Fr. 1173's and only about 30 1173a's. This nice, strictly original, lightly circulated example is a real eye-pleaser.
Fr. 1178 $20 1882 Gold Certificate Very Fine. Well margined, attractive and an ideal example of the grade. These early $20 Gold Certificates are always in heavy demand.
Fr. 1181 $20 1906 Gold Certificate Very Fine. The paper is lightly aged and the back color slightly faded.
1906 $20 Gold Certificate, Fr-1181, Good-VG. This is a somewhat scarcer gold certificate that has been blessed with good margins. There isn't much to say about this note except that it has seen a good deal of circulation in its day and is somewhat darker in appearance and is essentially problem free, which is somewhat surprising for a note that's been around as much as this one has.
1922 $20 Gold Certificate, Fr-1187, VF-XF. This bright and colorful gold note is just about flawless for the grade, with just a few folds that keep it from grading any higher.
Fr. 1199 $20 1913 Gold Certificate Very Fine. A solid example, with terrific back color, large margins and no problems of any kind. 1913 Fifties are not at all common in nice circulated grade, and this one is just that: a nice, circulated piece.
1922 $100 Gold Certificate, Fr-1215, VF-XF. A crisp, bright, and well margined Benson C-Note that is attractive for the grade and should fit very nicely in a high-end circulated type set.

Milford, NH - $10 1929 Ty. 1 The Souhegan NB Ch. # 1070

Fine.
