Rare and Desirable Northwest Territories Overprint

Winnipeg, MB- The Union Bank of Canada $5 July 1, 1912 Ch. # 730-16-04a
Full penned signatures and solid margins are seen on this attractive mid-grade rarity. In June 1921, 1000 $5 sheets were overprinted with "Northwest Territories". A second run of 500 sheets was requested in January of 1922. This note, featuring the 754223 was from the first grouping issued. With a mere 6000 notes issued with this overprint, it is no wonder only one other example of this very scarce note has been offered in our auctions. That piece, a slightly higher graded VF realized $13,800 in 2008. All pricing information for this piece in Charlton can be disregarded as the market for Canadian rarities remains strong. PMG Choice Fine 15.
