Description

Fantastic Issued 1000 Pesetas of 1876

Spain Banco de Espana 1000 Pesetas 1.7.1876 Pick 13 PMG Choice Fine 15.
In 1875, the Bank of Spain required outside help to meet the banknote needs of the country, and a contract was signed with the American Banknote Company to produce 100, 500, and 1000 Pesetas banknotes. Although dated 1876, the notes were not issued until 1883 at the earliest. Printer records indicate that only 100,000 pieces of this highest denomination were issued. At the time of cataloging, this is the first example to be offered in a major auction. Likewise, this example is the only issued note graded in the PMG Population Report. Although circulation is certainly visible through the third party holder, all details are nonetheless clearly visible. Of the highest degree of rarity and a key banknote for Spain, especially in issued form.
