Extremely Rare $5 1906 Eastern Townships Bank Note

    Sherbrooke, PQ- Eastern Townships Bank $5 Jan. 2, 1906 Ch. # 230-16-02
This excessively rare bank received its charter in 1855 and began operations in 1859. Although there were several emissions of circulating notes between 1859 and 1906, all are extremely to prohibitively rare, with most of the earlier notes remaining unknown. The new Charlton reference cites an unpublished census of this bank's notes by indicating that a mere 16 examples of the 1906 $5 extant, with three of that total in institutional holdings. No note from this bank could be found in the Flynn collection, the most massive assortment of Canadian chartered bank material offered in recent years. Any estimate here is simply a speculation, but if rarity and desirability are any guide, expect this PMG graded Very Fine 25 to reach or exceed the Charlton catalogue value of $8500 in Very Fine.
