    A Desirable 1871 Twenty Francs

France Banque de France 20 Francs 5.1.1871 Pick 55 PMG About Uncirculated 50.
French banknotes from the 19th-century are notoriously scarce, as their convertibility to gold coinage prevented all but a scant few from being saved. This 20 Francs is no exception, as known examples are few and far between. At the time of cataloging, this banknote is the second highest graded Pick 55 in the PMG Population Report, of only eight items submitted. A few pinholes and minor wear to the center and corner folds are noted for accuracy on this otherwise beautiful example. Very rare in any grade, this piece is especially desirable in this lightly circulated state.
