    "Type Two" Specimen 1 Dollar

Australia Commonwealth of Australia, Reserve Bank 1 Dollar ND (1972) Pick 37s2 McDS11 Specimen
In 1966, the Reserve Bank released denomination sets of specimens with two very distinct types. The first type included the word SPECIMEN in an oval over the watermark. A total of 208 specially prepared books were issued of the "Type One" specimens. A second type with the word SPECIMEN overprinted diagonally eight times on each side was also issued. These specimens were issued individually, rather than in booklet form. This example and the four following notes are all "Type Two" Specimens. Their rarity cannot be understated as the Sydney dealer John Pettit estimates that there are only two sets of the "Type Two" notes known, one of which he sold in 1989. The engravings on this 1 Dollar were executed in an aboriginal style including the Australian coat of arms, making this design uniquely Australian. The serial number BBF 000000 is seen at the bottom and the diagonal SPECIMEN overprints are well embossed. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 Net, with mention of some previous mounting residue.
