Spain Banco de Espana 500 Pesetas 1.1.1884 Pick 27 PMG
Choice Very Fine 35.The 1884 series of banknotes prepared for the Bank of Spain are incredibly rare in any format. In fact, at the time of cataloging, this is the only example graded in the PMG Population Report and the first example we have offered. Although dated 1884, this note was not issued until 1893. This series was withdrawn in 1911, and a high denomination like this was redeemable for a substantial amount of gold and silver coinage, leaving only a few examples extant. Mild circulation and a few minor stains are seen on this pleasing example. A notation at back does not detract from the overall appearance. Extremely rare and missing from most relevant collections.
