Fantastic 1000 Pesetas from 1884

Spain Banco de Espana 1000 Pesetas 19.1.1884 Pick 28 PMG Extremely Fine 40.
Although there are a plethora of 19th century types issued by the Bank of Spain, almost all are surprisingly rare today. This 1000 Pesetas is no exception, as the lone note graded in the PMG Population Report. This is the first example to be offered in public auction, and it is sure a beauty! 150,000 notes were prepared and dated 1884, though they remained unissued until 1889. The visual appeal of this banknote is virtually unmatched when compared to other 19th century types. Minimal circulation is seen atop crisp paper and vivid colors. 1000 Pesetas was an enormous sum of money at the time, which likely resulted in the vast majority being exchanged for gold coins. Of the highest degree of rarity and a first for Heritage Auctions, this offering is sure to excite the collecting community.
