    Single Finest Graded Rarity

Mauritius Government of Mauritius 10 Rupees 1.1.1927 Pick 17 PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45 EPQ.
As is often the case with seldom seen issues, collectors and enthusiasts often must fight for any note that magically appears on the market. However, in this situation, an absurdly high grade example presents itself, which therefore presents an even more special opportunity. This denomination is extremely challenging to find in any state of preservation and is absent from many African and Commonwealth collections. Owen Linzmayer's Mauritius chapter of The Banknote Book is most likely the best guide to these early types. As estimated in the above, approximately 335,000 of these uniface types were issued between 1927 and 1932, with all notes in circulation being withdrawn beginning in 1934. Very few of these larger format 10 Rupees are known to exist, with this example being the superior example. At the time of cataloging, only nine examples have been graded by PMG, with this example being the finest graded. No other examples were granted EPQ status, and none grade better than Very Fine 25. All told, this is an important opportunity to acquire a seriously rare banknote that heightened by its outstanding original grade.
