    A Desirable WWII 25 Patacas

Macau Banco Nacional Ultramarino 25 Patacas 5.2.1944 Pick 24 KNB30a PMG Uncirculated 60 Net.
The 25 Patacas denomination is a key note in multiple Macau series, as it had a smaller print total than the immediate denominations both lower and higher. Only 80,000 of these notes were issued in 1944, then withdrawn in 1947, making any surviving examples quite rare today. This issue appears to have been made locally. The signatures on these notes were a mix of printed, stamped, and handwritten. We have not offered this type in the past. This is only the second example offered in a major, traceable auction since 2014. Only one example grades finer in the PMG Population Report at the time of cataloging. Although this note is Uncirculated, it appears to have been housed in a book, as evidenced by the paper pulls, scuffs, and associated repairs. Nevertheless, any condition issues are secondary to the sheer rarity of this World War II banknote.
