Key to the 1890 Treasury Aces

Fr. 348 $1 1890 Treasury Note PMG About Uncirculated 55.
Fr. 348 is by far the scarcest of the 1890 Aces. HCAA has sold only 26 examples as opposed to Fr. 347, of which we have sold 113, and Fr. 349, of which we have sold 48. These proportions hold up pretty well to the census of all notes, which shows over 400 Fr. 347s, about 80 Fr. 348s and over 200 Fr. 349s. Few of the 82 known examples can begin to compare to this beautiful note, with its near-perfect centering, ideal colors, sharp printing quality, and perfect paper surfaces. Collectors would be well advised to focus on sleeper numbers such as this, because they frequently sell for only small premiums over their more common type mates.
