Casino et Concerts Paganini (France)A historic 1837 certificate for 1000 Francs in black, gold and blue. An extraordinarily vignetted certificate with an ornate border design encircling the printed names of some of the world's greatest composers and thinkers, including Mozart, Hayden, Galileo and Shakespeare. A vignette of the concert hall is flanked by winged allegorical figures. This is truly an exceptional lithographed stock from the 1830's.
Paganini began visiting Paris in 1831. He was already well known for his compositions and during one of his visits met with investors who proposed to build a concert hall in his honor. He invested 100,000 Francs of his own personal funds, only to lose the entire amount in a lengthy legal battle. His artistic abilities deteriorated rapidly following the disappointment of this episode.
An exceptionally graphic certificate from this early period. Quite rare to date with a scant three known. There is scattered foxing throughout and some edge roughness at right. Uncancelled. Fine.
