    Description

Westinghouse Air Brake Company - Specimen (Pennsylvania)
A green and black Specimen for 100 shares. A multi vignette certificate with steam locomotives at top and an air brake mechanism at bottom. The air brake invented by George Westinghouse, Jr. revolutionized the railroad industry. Prior to the Westinghouse innovation trains were stopped by manually operated braking mechanisms, which were subject to failures of operator judgment and other inherent safety limitations. The Westinghouse air brake was actuated by compressed air and represented a quantum leap in safety and dependability. In 1893 the Railroad Safety Appliance Act made air brakes compulsory on all American trains. Attractive and lightly punch cancelled. Extremely Fine.
