DescriptionAbraham Lincoln - Presidential Pardon
This Presidential Pardon was signed on May 25, 1863 and bears the signature of both Abraham Lincoln as President and Frederick W. Seward as Acting Secretary of State. There is a large wax Presidential Seal attached at left.
The pardon is granted to one Richard Hayden, who was convicted of destroying letters stolen from the mails and was suffering from pulmonary consumption (tuberculosis) while in prison. There are several edge splits and reinforcement along a central fold separation. Overall quite attractive and an interesting and important artifact associating Lincoln and Seward. Very Fine.
