Page 29 of the January 1942 issue of The Numismatist states that "as a war-time precautionary measure, the United States mints and the BEP, as well as the assay offices, have been closed to the public. It might also be noted that the silver storage vault at West Point, NY and the gold storage center at Fort Knox, Kentucky, have never been opened to the public." The $5 has a few minor spots.
