Finest Yet Graded $20 Hawaii Mule Replacement

Fr. 2305* $20 1934A Hawaii Mule Federal Reserve Note. PCGS Choice Apparent About New 55.
Our 2005 Taylor Family Collection Auction was the last appearance for this Hawaii rarity. In that auction we described it as, "A very rare Mule star which bears the highest number of any recorded in the Oakes census. This is an extremely difficult note to obtain in any grade, and especially in this state of preservation. A small repaired split at the bottom which barely enters the design must be mentioned for total accuracy in description." The piece remains the highest serial number listed in the small size tome and we have offered just one other example of this replacement in any of our auctions since. PCGS noted the minor repair that we described and as a result assigned an "Apparent" grade. To date, this note remains the highest graded example by both services combined. Finding another, in any grade, is likely to entail a multi-year wait.
