Fr. 262 $5 1886 Silver Certificate PCGS Superb Gem New
67PPQ.This is a conditionally rare example of a Federal large size type note classic. A beautiful example with the large red seal boldly set within this deeply printed note. The green back is vivid and each side displays perfect centering. This is a scarcer "Silver Dollar Back" Friedberg number with approximately 100 notes known. Some other high-grade notes with serial numbers in this vicinity are known. There has not been an Fr. 262 in this lofty state of preservation sold since the present note last crossed the auction block over six years ago. Ex: Stack's Bowers, May 20, 2015, Rarities sale (with Sotheby's), lot 13 (realized $57,575); our 2015 FUN sale, lot 21597. No grading service has certified a 68; this is tied for finest known.
