Milwaukee, WI- J.B. Schram at Second Ward Bank 25¢ ND (ca. 1862) Krause UNL Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
J.B. Schram is listed as a grocer in the 1860 Federal census for Milwaukee and undoubtedly used scrip made available by his bank to make change in the absence of coins during 1862-63. This scrip was printed by H. Seifert, a Milwaukee lithographic printer and it is quite likely that this example is technically an archival note or printer's sample retained by Seifert. There are a number of different similar notes printed by Seifert in this auction lending credence to that scenario. The note is printed on light cardstock in green with a rose undertint and is decidedly rare.

    Estimate: $500 - $600.
