    Description

Kenosha, WI- Kenosha County Bank $1 Mar. 1, 1855 G2a Krause G2a Proof PCGS Apparent Very Choice New 64.
The bank opened as a free bank in 1855 and remained in business until closing its doors during the course of 1862-63. The $1 design features Justice seated by a large $1 coin as well as vignettes of a head-on view of a steamboat and a maiden peering from behind a huge 1. The state comptroller's die and a compact red script ONE protector complete the design. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual POCs in the signature lines. PCGS notes a bit of adhesive staining in the upper right corner and some very minor edge nicks in the left margin. This bank was not represented in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. This note traces its provenance back to the Eric P. Newman collection and apparently is of significant rarity based on the very limited public auction appearances in the past decade.
