    Description

    Albany, WI- Bank of Albany $3 Sept. 1, 1860 G4b Krause G4b
Albany is a small village located about thirty miles from Madison, with this the only pre-Civil War bank established here. The venture lasted for only two years, as the bank, which was chartered in 1859, failed in 1861. Notes are excessively rare, especially signed and issued specimens. This evenly circulated $3 note is the first we have had and comes with a pedigree dating back to its last appearance on the market in January, 1978, where it was lot 1043 in NASCA's New England Collection sale. PMG Choice Fine 15 Net, with the Net grade assigned only because of some hinges on the back.
