    Scottsville, VA- Bank of Scottsville $5 April 18, 1861 G16b J-L BS15-12 PMG Very Good 10.
The bank initially issued registered (free bank) notes but transitioned in 1860/61 to the issuance of unregistered notes. This design, originally used for registered notes, was modified by removing the state treasurer die, replacing it with the state coat of arms, and eliminating the countersignature line. Issued less than a week after the start of the Civil War, inventories of pre-war notes were not yet depleted. Printed in red, green, and black, this attractive note is rare we are aware of 8-9 notes at present.
