    Description

    Scottsville, VA- Bank of Scottsville $10 April 18, 1861 G18b J-L BS15-28 PMG Very Fine 20.
    This note was legally altered for use as an unregistered issue of the bank by removing the state treasurer die at lower right, replacing it with the state coat of arms, and removing the countersignature space. The note was issued six days after the start of the Civil War and was attractively (and expensively) printed in three colors. Very rare with a surviving population of 5-9 notes per Jones-Littlefield.
