Richmond, VA- Virginia Treasury Note $50 Aug. 13, 1861 Cr. 2 Jones VT02-08
A very pleasing example of this exceptionally rare note printed by Hoyer and Ludwig. It has been estimated that fewer than thirty of these notes exist in all grades, although some authorities speculate that number may well be as low as 20. The vignette at right is a portrait of John Tyler, who served as Governor of Virginia, U.S. Senator from Virginia, Vice President, and President of the United States. This example is quite bright and has the appearance of a considerably higher grade piece, with its Apparent grade solely due to some barely visible mounting remnants on the back. PCGS Apparent Very Fine 35, a more than acceptable example of a very rare note.
