    Description

Excessively Rare Cr. 8A $10 Virginia Treasury Note

Richmond, VA- Virginia Treasury Note $10 Oct. 15, 1862 Cr. 8A
A great rarity which was recently discovered and is offered here to the collecting fraternity for the first time. This note is the variety which lacks the green "X" and "Ten" protectors. It is listed in Hugh Shull's A Guide Book of Southern States Currency with his highest rarity rating, R-11, which equates to 2-4 pieces known. We have never had one in any CAA or Heritage auction and can recall no others offered at public sale either. There is a piece missing from the lower left side and a couple of edge splits, but where can another be obtained in any grade? PCGS Apparent Very Fine 25, a note which could easily make our estimate look foolish the moment bidding commences.
